On November 25, 1945 – one hundred days after the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Indonesia – the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) was founded.
With the spirit of screaming "merdeka" pounding, in the midst of the smell of gunpowder bombing by the British army on the RRI Surakarta studio, they simultaneously united to fill independence with three goals
1. Maintaining and perfecting the Republic of Indonesia.
2. Enhancing the level of education and teaching in accordance with popular principles.
3. Defending the rights and fate of workers in general, teachers in particular.
Since the Indonesian Teachers' Congress, all Indonesian teachers have declared themselves to be united in the Association of Teachers of the Republic of Indonesia (PGRI).
