The Federal Association of Broadband Communication e.V. (BREKO) represents the majority of German landline competitors. Its members clearly rely on future-proof fiber optics and are currently responsible for almost 70 percent of the competitive expansion with direct fiber optic connections (FTTB / FTTH).
The approximately 390 BREKO companies, including over 220 city and regional carriers as well as municipal utilities, supply both metropolitan areas and rural areas, the “white spots”, with high-performance fiber optic connections. To this end, they invested around 2.9 billion euros in 2020 and implemented 5.3 million real FTTH / B connections. In this way, the BREKO companies make a significant contribution to the nationwide expansion of fiber optics and to the achievement of the federal government's broadband targets.
