About MHK Antikensammlung

The permanent exhibition of the antique collection in the Kassel castle Wilhelmshöhe (Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel - MHK) was extended in June 2018 to a part of the collection history, which is dedicated in particular to the acquisitions of Landgrave Friedrich II.

His acquisitions in Rome in 1777, the opening of the Museum Fridericianum in 1779 and the simultaneous beginning of scientific research in the "Altertümergesellschaft" characterize the Kassel collection and establish its European rank. The exhibition stages the antiquity enthusiasm of the second half of the 18th century and presents current scientific findings.

With the help of the "MHK Antikensammlung" app, augmented reality will make additional sculptures visible to museum visitors in the newly designed Rome Hall. They appear on the screen between the other exhibits and showcases and are thus a virtual part of the new exhibition area.

The app "MIC Collection of Antiques" also provides additional information on the real existing exhibits. In total, visitors will be offered 60 comparative images and 20 video and audio files in the virtual extension of the exhibition. This app can only be used in the rooms of the Antikensammlung in Kassel Schloss Wilhelmshöhe.
