About Weltbrand 1914

The First World War is considered the "seminal catastrophe of the 20th century". A complex history and diverse causes meant that within a few weeks after the assassination of the Austrian Archduke couple in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 a "conflagration" unprecedented scale was created. The first world war was brought about by rulers, politicians and military men who willingly exert their war as a means to achieve their goals. The messages, reports and pictures of the newspapers are never free from national trend, often designed specifically for propaganda purposes and used for propaganda. The app was created as part of the complete digitization of Hamburg news by the State and University Library Hamburg Carl von Ossietzky and their preparation for the articles Search by CCS Content Conversion Specialists, Hamburg, in the framework of the EU project Europeana Newspapers. An expert team of historians of the State Library of Hamburg has selected for the app from the wealth of newspaper and visual material time those documents are the political and local hamburger content exemplary of the media coverage of the 1st World War. A chronicle with short introductory texts and references helps in the classification of the material.

To 31 December (1914, individually or monthly rechargeable in the app and re-erasable) selected 930 newspaper pages from the morning and evening editions of the Hamburg news from the period June 29 -

- Chronology of key events associated with links to Wikipedia articles for orientation over the course of the war
