The Smoking and Addictive Disorders Unit of the USC School of Psychology has its origins in 1984, when Professor Elisardo Becoña began to treat smokers with different psychological techniques. This is how the “Smoking Cessation Program” arises, which has become a national and international benchmark in cognitive-behavioral psychological treatment for smoking cessation.
Over the years, treatments are extended to other addictions (eg, pathological gambling, cannabis, cocaine, etc.) and the significant comorbidity associated with these disorders (eg, depressive, anxiety, eating, personality disorders, etc. .).
In these 30 years of experience, a large number of people (almost 14,000 smokers) have been treated, many professionals have been trained, high-impact research has been carried out at the scientific level, reports and studies have been prepared for different administrations (local, regional and national). ) and participated in regional, national and European research projects.
