Unlike other popular encryption apps that use AES to secure a text or file with a password DARKCHAИNEL uses RSA public key encryption. It is designed to be simple, easy to use, and very secure.
You may use the app to secure passwords, take secure notes, or transmit encrypted text to your contacts over unsecure channels that only they can decrypt.
Unlike AES you do not need to send a password to your contacts to open your encrypted files / messages. Your contact will send you their public key that may encrypt ( but not decrypt ) your message. You may use their key to send them an encrypted message and they will use their private key, which they do not share, to decrypt your message.
You, the user are able to determine the bitlength of the RSA key. An RSA key bitlength of 3072 is recommended by the NSA. I would recommend 4096 bits which is currently the app default, however performance suffers when decrypting using a key of 4096 bit or larger especially for long messages.
In the next release AES encryption will be used for message encryption ( password protected messages or files ) and RSA will only be required to securely transmit the password. While is it possible to use RSA for secure communication as well as wholesale encryption it's performance is terrible for large messages / files. Each encryption scheme has its purpose and AES is intended for wholesale encryption ( although it cannot perform secure communications on it's own like RSA ).
Currently the app only encrypts text, no file encryption in this release.
