The Mangala Sutta is the Buddha's discourse on the 38 main blessings, which are noble actions and accomplishments, from the mundane to the supreme inner.
The suttas recorded in Khuddakapātha 5 and in Sutta Nipāta 2.4 are commonly used as darasan paritta (protection).
At the time this sermon was given, there was discussion throughout Jambudipa about the ultimate meaning of blessing. The devas heard this and argued with them, until the matter spread to the brahma realm. Then Sakka, the lord of the gods, sent a deity to ask the Buddha about this.
