Our mission is to promote Guatemalan culture and music and connect people with Guatemalan heritage. We offer a variety of programming, including news, sports, and music. Our Story: Marimba de Guatemala Radio was founded in 2009 by two friends who shared a love for Guatemalan music. Since then, we have grown into a team of passionate volunteers who want to share Guatemalan culture with the world. We are proud to be one of the only radio stations that focuses on Guatemalan music and we hope to continue promoting Guatemalan culture for many years to come. Thanks for your attention!
Guatemalan music is diverse. The music is played throughout the country. The towns also have wind and percussion bands that play during the Lenten and Holy Week processions, as well as on other occasions. The marimba is an important instrument in traditional Guatemalan songs. The oldest documented use of the marimba in the Americas dates back to 1680 during celebrations in Santiago de los Caballeros de Guatemala. Guatemala also has an art music tradition of almost five centuries, ranging from the first liturgical chant and polyphony introduced in 1524 to contemporary art music. Much of the music composed in Guatemala from the 16th to the 19th century has only recently been discovered by scholars and is being revived by artists.
