Sroda Wielkopolska is the seat of county government Środa Śląska.

The landscape around the town make educated upper glacial moraine plains Scandinavian glacier descent. The area is bezjeziorny and hydrological network formed flowing through the city: Maskawa (d. Pupil, length. 56.7 km, sources Nekielki circle, to the mouth of the Warta 307 km) and Struga Średzka (L. 15.7 km, the sources Tulcami estuary to Maskawa in its 26 km). Partially within the city limits in 1972. Maskawie created the artificial reservoir of the area. 47 hectares.
In the years 1975-1998 the town administratively belonged to the province. Poznan.
