The Rule of St. Benedict is a set of instructions composed by St. Benedict of Nursia (480–550 AD) for monks living together under an abbot.
St. Benedict's rule has been the cornerstone of Western monasticism. His rule starts with a general encouragement to follow "the way to salvation." He then goes on to relate how monks ought to structure their lives through prayer and work and interact with each either.
Although intended for monks the rule is used by many people to help them grow in their own spiritual lives.
