The study aims to identify how diabetes type 2 patients* can be supported to improve the following:
- Blood glucose control (HbA1c).
- Increase physical activity
- Healthy diet
- Quality of life
- Blood values
- Concomitant diseases of diabetes
- Psychological resources for lifestyle change
The "dbcoach" app helps users achieve their goals.
APP-FEATURES
- Protected communication between coach and patient
- Assessment and analysis
- Goal setting, recommendations, appointments, patient history
- Setting of exercise and nutrition goals
- Chat module
- Logging of nutrition and exercise
- Adaptive energy balance calculation
- Vital data with trend analysis
BENEFITS FOR SUBJECTS/PATIENTS
Through digitalization, there are now appropriate tools that have proven to be a very good support option for health behavior change. The Diabetes Coach Program includes the use of a personalized app and/or website to implement exercise and healthy eating. When you participate in the program, you will receive a personal account on the app and/or website, as well as a briefing on its features. In addition, you will receive either a written recommendation on your diet and exercise behaviors specifically related to diabetes or a regular individual phone consultation over a year with a personal health coach. Which of the two additional programs you receive will be decided at random. Since we want to check which of the two program options is more helpful, a study is attached to the program.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
- Diagnosed diabetes type 2 with medical treatment.
- Age: between 18 – 65 years
- Exercise less than 150 minutes per week
- HbA1c above 7.5 %
- Internet access
PARTICIPANT’S DATAPROTECTION
The protection of your personal data is our highest priority. You will receive detailed information on the subject of confidentiality, data protection, data management and contact options within the framework of the project in an information meeting as well as in writing if you participate.
ARE THERE ANY DISADVANTEGES FOR PARTICIPANTS?
There are no disadvantages whatsoever in participating in the program. Participation is voluntary and can be discontinued at any time. Medical treatment will continue even if the subject participates in the program and is therefore independent of participation. Questions about participation and the project can be asked at any time. The project team will be happy to provide information at any time.

The study is organized and conducted by Dr. Oliver Faude with his research team (Vivien Hohberg/M.A., Jan-Niklas Kreppke/M.Sc., Dr. Fiona Streckmann) at the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel.
