About GigReports

GigReports aims to make gig work safer for workers across Australia. It provides gig economy workers in Australia with a simple and quick way of reporting road safety incidents (e.g. crashes and near misses) and personal safety incidents or thefts that they experience when gig working. Reporting involves providing information regarding the incidents themselves (e.g., time and location, incident description) and contributory factors involved.

The data is accessed by the research team at the University of the Sunshine Coast who provide summarised, de-identified analyses and recommendations back to the gig worker community, gig economy platforms and government bodies to help them make evidence-based decisions on improving safety. All data collected via the GigReports App is stored securely and will be treated confidentially unless required by law.

GigReports also presents a summary of the incidents reported to its users, allowing gig workers to understand the hazards that they experience when gig working as well as trends in crash and near miss causation.

GigReports is funded through the Road Safety innovation Fund, an Australian Government scheme which supports road safety research and the development of new, innovative road safety technologies and products. GigReports was developed by the Centre for Human Factors and Sociotechnical Systems at the University of the Sunshine Coast in collaboration with Bizsoft Consulting.
