Alexandre Dumas (also known as Alexandre Dumas father) was a French writer born July 24, 1802 in Villers-Cotterêts (Aisne) and died December 5, 1870 in the hamlet of Puys, former town of Neuville-lès-Dieppe, now part of Dieppe (Seine Maritime).
Grandson of a black slave and a Creole marquis, Alexandre Dumas has largely taken his revenge on his "misfortune".
When his father dies, the family has little means for Alexandre's studies.
Thanks to his father's connections, he found a job as a notary's clerk.
His writing talents were quickly noticed, and it was under the protection of the Duke of Orléans that he worked until the revolution.
His literary career began with the theater but, after the triumph of his book 'Henri III and his court', he preferred to devote himself to the novel.
The popular successes of serial novels follow one another....
