Sahih Bukhari is a book (book) collection of hadith compiled by Imam Bukhari who lived between 194 to 256 hijri. This book is also known as al-Jami al-Musnad as-Sahih al-Mukhtasar min Age of Rasulullah ﷺ wa Sunanihi wa Ayyamihi.
This hadith collection among Sunni Muslims is one of the best because Bukhari uses very strict criteria in selecting hadiths. He spent 16 years compiling this collection and produced 2,602 hadiths in his book (9,802 with repetition).
Imam Bukhari did not clearly explain the hadith selection method used in compiling his book. However, judging from the hadiths listed in Sahih Bukhari and from his statements in his other book, at-Tarikh al-Kabir, the hadith experts conclude that there are actually two conditions:
Quality of Rijal al-Hadith (translators of hadith). In this matter, Imam Bukhari only chose hadiths whose narrator status was not commented badly by hadith experts. Mainly in the hadith related to the creed or the basis of Islam. Even if there is, but the comment has no effect. Meanwhile, Imam Muslim also included hadiths whose narrator status was disputed. This is the reason Sahih Bukhari is more important than Sahih Muslim.
Ittishal as-Sanad (the continuity of the sanad [translators of hadith]). Whereas in this matter, Imam Bukhari emphasizes that students hear directly from their teacher or at least meet even once. He does not include the hadith mu'an'an (hadith in which there are unknown narrators). Unless it comes from a narrator who has proven to have heard from his teacher. Meanwhile, Imam Muslim did not set conditions as strict as this.
