About Fadhilatus Syukri Ala Ni'matih

This Android application is an Explanation About Fadhilatus Syukri Lillah Ala Ni'matihi By Imam al-Hafidz Abu Bakar as-Samarriy. In PDF format.

This book is a unique work (nadir) because apart from its type, it is an ancient manuscript written in the middle of the 3rd century H, its study is specific to the word gratitude. Unlike the works of other scholars. Although discussing gratitude, not a few associate it with words that are equivalent in meaning (mutaradifat), such as the words syukr, hamd, madh and ridla.

This is because according to him, gratitude has a more general meaning and includes all forms of praise, both to God and to fellow human beings, both externally and spiritually.

According to Muhammad Muthi' (pentahqiq book), there are two books about gratitude that are almost similar, namely the Book of Asy-Syukr by Ibn Abi Ad-dunya (d.281 H.) and the Book of Fadhilatu asy-Syukr by Imam al-Kharaithi (d. 327 H.). Both can be said to be contemporaries, although 46 years later Imam Al-Kharaithi died at the age of 90.

There are allegations (allegedly) that the two of them collaborated in the work. This is because there are many similarities in terms of references, styles, methods and approaches (istidlal) used, such as hadiths and poetry, although Muhammad Muthi' himself did not explain in more detail the differences in the works of the two. But what is certain, the work of Ibn Abi ad-Dunya is older than the work of Imam al-Kharaithi.

Judging from his work, Imam al-Kharaithi can also be called a Sufi figure because other manuscripts have been found to be concerned with Sufistic studies, for example: Kitab Makarim al-Akhlak wa Ma'áliha, Kitab Masawi al-Akhlak wa Madzmumuha, Kitab I' tilal Qulub fi Ahaditst al-Mahabbah and Kitab Qam'u al-Hirsh bi al-Qonaáh.

The difference is that Fadhilatu asy-Syukri Lillahi Ala Ni'matihi's book is more specific on thematic hadith studies. Precisely, the study of the hadiths about gratitude (thank you).

Even though this book presents hadiths complete with their sanad, even accompanied by related poems, there is no detailed explanation of the contents of the hadiths, so this book seems simple.

There is a need for new studies that are elaborative-explanative (sharah or hasyiah) to develop Imam al-Kharaithi's thoughts to be more comprehensive, both at the beginner (mubtadi) and intermediate (muqtashid) level of study.

Simply put, this book, like other hadith books, still focuses on collections of hadiths an sich, such as the Bulugh al-Maram, Mukhtar al-Ahaditst, Riyadus Shalihin and others, which are commonly studied in Islamic boarding schools in general.

This book contains 106 hadiths (including the poems), the majority of which – editorially – consist of prayer hadiths. Everything has to do with gratitude, starting from the hadiths that favor gratitude to the hadiths that are reluctant to be grateful (kufrun nikmah).
