The Union of Employees in Commerce of the Municipality of Ilhéus - SECMI, was founded on January 29, 1937 and recognized as a union entity by the Min. do Trab., Ind. e Com., through Order No. 10,067, of August 6, 1937, with Mr. Paulo Patury, who at that time also represented the working class for 09 (nine) years as Class Judge, having been succeeded by Mr. Yolando S. Almeida. As stated in its Bylaws, the colors of the Entity are blue, yellow and green, which will compose the flag, shield and other symbols, and its shield must appear on all official things of the same.
The land for the construction of its headquarters was donated by the municipality, through Law No. 522, of October 26, 1956, signed by Mayor Mr. Herval Soledade.
Over the years, the Union has had on its board of directors the following gentlemen: Vivaldo José Barbosa, Gilson Serafim da Silva, Joselito dos Santos, José Elias dos Santos, Valdemir Azevedo Silva, Walmir Duarte Pimenta, Paulo de Tácio F. da Silva, Manoel Raimundo Lessa, Eraldo dos Santos Alcântara, Jaime Alves dos Santos, Luiz Fernando Cunha Braz, Geraldo Santana, Sávio Galvão, Eduardo Lima, José Roberto Santana Lima, Arnaldo Batista dos Santos, Sérgio Luiz Lima Santos, Jorge Eduardo Oliveira da Encarnação and many others others, who, during their management, knew how to honor the name of this Union. Currently, Crismélia Mali Moreira da Silva is the president of this entity, being the first woman to assume its command.
On 11/05/2010, through an Ordinance published in the DOU of the same day, Section I, page 101, the statutory amendment of the entity was determined with its base extension, with intermunicipal coverage and territorial base in the municipalities of Ilhéus, Itacaré, Ubaitaba, Una and Uruçuca - Bahia, Ordinance signed by Mr. Carlos Lupi, Minister of Labor and Employment and Mrs. Zilmara David de Alencar, Secretary of Labor Relations.
Today, SECMI is the only union in the interior of Bahia that offers medical and dental services at its headquarters, in addition to several agreements with clinics, with colleges: Faculdade de Ilhéus, FTC, Unime and, in the future, Unopar, all of this, to give a better living conditions for its union members
