"Torrejón el Rubio, Heart of Monfragüe" is not a mere advertising slogan. This is the description of the importance that the municipality contributes to the environmental and cultural heritage of the National Park.
23% of the surface of Torrejón el Rubio is within the boundaries of the National Park. Much of the visitable area is in the municipality of our people. For example, the Castle and the Hermitage, and the shelter of the paintings belong to 5,000 square meters owned by the village of Torrejón el Rubio. Panoramic observed from height have seduced our ancestors; there have organized their surveillance areas the Celts, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Christians and now, instead of being lookout for war, is a place for contemplation. The only war we see is the vulture against the sky, the haze of the horizon with vertigo or face up. Places like the viewpoint of Salto del Gitano, the Source of French, the shady paths, which travels from said source to the castle or wander to the House of navvies, are located in Torrejón el Rubio.
To offer a much broader concept and complement the tourist and leisure and recreation offer, the city of Torrejón el Rubio has launched four Centers of Interpretation: the Monfragüe Bird Center, the Center of Interpretation of the Rock Art Center Legends Monfragüe and the Astronomical Observatory of Monfragüe.
Monfragüe Bird Center: Monfragüe is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in Western Europe. In the interpretive space BirdCenter Monfragüe, besides knowing these reasons, it will delve a little deeper into the biology of important species such as the Iberian imperial eagle, black vulture and the black stork. We also have a section specifically dedicated to several smaller species that are present in our Mediterranean forest and they spend more unnoticed to the uninitiated.
Interpretation Centre of Rock Art: Monfragüe is a magnificent enclave of Schematic Cave Painting. They have been discovered up to 107 shelters with some form of prehistoric pictorial representation. Our interpretation center is divided into four huts, each dedicated to a theme. In the first hut we approach the schematic painting, know the techniques, the production of pigments and the companies were responsible for the paintings. The second is an indoor recreation of a house in the middle Neolithic over 6,000 years ago. The third is dedicated to the Stones trails, where we will see replicas five steles. At last, we see a recreation of how they painted in prehistoric times.
Leyendas de Monfragüe center: Noemia, Zaida, Gonzálvez, Pedraja, Alfonso VI, the brothers Geraldo Sempavor Cuesta and Pablo Serrano, are some of the names that resonate in Monfragüe Interpretation Center, a destination of legend. It does this so swiftly, with great visual presence and strength but a simple stories that touch the heart.
Astronomical Observatory of Monfragüe: If we face the stars with an interest that goes beyond the mere profane observation, we enter a very complex world where science becomes more than necessary. Therefore, in addition to the Astronomical Observatory, we have created a Visitors Center where a simple, educational and entertaining way we explain some of the astronomical phenomena that we're going to find once we're in the dome with the telescope. What is a galaxy, a cluster, or a nebula solar system are some of the questions that will be answered in this center whose audio guide just installed.
