The Most High, annoyed with Faust for his desire to know all the secrets of creation and to be equal to him, bets with Mephistopheles, the Devil, to cause Faustus to fall into temptation and sin. Fausto sells his soul to Mephistopheles, in exchange for traveling in remote places and knowing everything that he has not been able to do for over 60 years, with the intention of revealing the secrets and mysteries of all things.
