About IMC

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is the simple ratio between body mass (kg) and height (m) square. It is often used in classifications of body proportions and nutritional status (in adults). It is very useful in population terms because of its simplicity. According to the World Health Organization, ideal values are between 20 and 25. Between 25 and 30 refer to being overweight; from 30 to 35, to obesity; above 35, to morbid obesity and below 20, to a very thin individual. It is clear that body composition is a very important aspect to be taken into account in an evaluation of the result - which can be considered by a Physical Education professional.
