The question that had been in my head for a long time was "How can I train people of diverse backgrounds and languages in the Word of God?" I was confronted with a challenge in Tanzania while working with the evangelists who had been entrusted with the leadership of their churches. Many were their impediments to be prepared in the Word of God, including: Language, economics, family responsibilities, availability for preparation, resources for preparation and learning styles.
It was an old lady from a small church in Wisconsin whom the Lord used to introduce me to the International Orality Network. It was revealing to consider that the training method that Jesus used to prepare his disciples can still be used today to prepare people in the Word of God. It is shocking to consider that the parables and the questions that Jesus used now make it possible to overcome language and culture. The one that has been prepared in college and the illiterate can interact together when a style of oral preparation is used.
That started an experiment that has grown to become a reality with wonderful results, explainable only by the hand of God. The first group of 20 students began their training in Uganda. After the first class finished their two years of study, they started another seven classes, and those students began teaching the second generation. The second graduation included 71 students and those students started 20 classes with the hope of seeing 300 students in the next graduation.
This book is the result of something that the Lord began to do five years ago. It is the combined effort of people from six countries. Some taught and applied the training, others translated, others reviewed the doctrinal integrity and others the grammatical precision. Pastor Nate Jore, a missionary in Uganda, has prepared the way to put the curriculum into practice. He has placed his life and the Word of God in the hands of the leaders of Uganda, and the Lord has used it to multiply this training. Nathan Olson and Andrew Olson have expanded this work so that it could be available in Portuguese, Spanish, and Luganda. Pastor Valery Hryhoryk made the translation into Russian and Pastor Devasahayam Dunna has been directing telegu translation and work in India.
All this has been done for the purpose of preparing people in the Word of God and for His Glory. No one can take credit for what has taken place and for how the Lord has used this to expand his Kingdom. "What, then, is Paul, and what is Apollos? Servers by means of which you have believed; and that according to what each one granted the Lord. According to the grace of God that has been given to me, I as an expert architect laid the foundation, and another builds on it; but each one look how it builds. Because no one can lay another foundation than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. "
I Corinthians 3: 5, 10-11.
