The poem was written in the autumn of Boldino in 1833, but published only after the death of Pushkin. It is a simple story about the fate of the little man, whose fate is not interesting to anyone, as if the fate of the chips in the traditional St. Petersburg floods. The poem describes the flood event in 1824, which became one of the strongest in the entire history of the city on the Neva.
