How Many Cables, Conduits or Pipes can you fit in a Penetration made easy!
As with all our Apps this App provides the underlying maths and theory behind the calculations together with worked examples. This will allow you to not just get an answer, but more more importantly, to understand how the answer was derived.
This App effectively provides a ‘circle packing’ algorithm for ‘circles within a circle’ or ‘circles within a rectangle’. The real world application of this allows you to ascertain how many cables, conduits or pipes etc you can get through a given penetration. The penetration can either be a ‘circular penetration’ such as a round penetration through a beam or floor slab, or a ‘rectangular penetration’ such as a slot within a concrete wall or floor slab. All the items passing through the penetration need to be of the same outside diameter, or otherwise use the diameter of the largest item.
Circular Penetration:
Upon providing the penetration diameter and cable, conduit or pipe diameter the estimated amount of cables, conduits or pipes that can fit through the given penetration is calculated and displayed. Should the number of conduits be less than 10,000 then the option is available to ‘Draw’ and see the configuration of cables, conduits or pipes within the penetration.
Rectangular Penetration:
Upon providing the penetration width, height and cable, conduit or pipe diameter the estimated amount of cables, conduits or pipes that can fit through the given penetration is calculated and displayed with cables, conduits or pipes configured in both a matrix and staggered configuration. Should the number of cables, conduits or pipes be less than 10,000 then the option is available to ‘Draw’ each conduit configuration and see the configuration of conduits within the penetration.
