Who is teaching your teen to drive?
You are. Optimize the time you spend with your teen during the supervised driving process with the DRVN app. The app tracks time, helps you structure driving sessions, and strengthens understanding through skill checks with your teen.
DRVN offers:
• A Guided & Structured Driving Plan
• A Diverse Range of Skills & Environments
• Progress Tracking & Feedback
WHY DRVN?
Most states require parents to supervise their teen’s driving practice for 50 hours during the temporary license period. While lots of resources exist to help parents, those require a parent to plan ahead for sessions. DRVN is the only app that supports parents during the parent supervised experience with an easily accessible guide for teaching. No need to plan ahead, just get in the car and drive.
HOW TO USE DRVN:
1) Pair With a Driver or Coach
If you are a parent, you’ll want to pair with your teen driver. If you are a teen driver, you’ll want to pair with your parent coach.
2) Start a Drive
Once a parent starts a driving session from the passenger’s seat, they are provided with a list of recommended skills to help them structure the drive. If a parent isn’t sure how to teach a skill, they can select it for more information. The skill information is provided in concise, direct chunks optimized for delivery in the car.
3) Check off Skills and Rate Drive
When the parent concludes the driving session, they will be asked what skills were covered and given the opportunity to rate their teen driver’s performance. If the teen did well, those skills are marked as complete. If the teen had some troubles, DRVN will keep those skills open so that they can be practiced again.
FEATURES
TRACKS TIME: Most states have a number of hours that parents need to accompany their teens for during their temporary license period before they can be licensed. The standard is 50 hours, including 10 at night. The app keeps a running total of driving session time so that you don’t have to, even noting when you were traveling after dark.
COVERS DIVERSE RANGE OF SKILLS: Outside of right turn, left turn, stop and go, do you know what skills to cover? The app offers lessons with skills grouped from most basic to most complex to help you cover the widest range of skills without having to plan ahead and do the research.
CONCISE COACHING PROMPTS: Just because you’ve parallel parking 1000x doesn’t mean you would know where to begin with explaining how it’s done. The app has quick cues to help you through explaining the skills to your teen.
TRACKS PROGRESS: You’re not usually a pro after a first attempt. If you note that your teen could use more practice with a skill, we’ll help you remember to revisit the skill until your teen has mastered it.
GIVES DRIVER FEEDBACK: When a student covers a skill but doesn’t demonstrate complete competency, they will receive some information to help them better understand the ins-and-outs of successful completion of the skill. This way they have the opportunity to improve through better understanding.
CHECKS DRIVER UNDERSTANDING: When the driver has successfully mastered a skill in practice, the app serves up a quick question to them after the driving session about the skill. This checks for understanding and helps solidify comprehension.
_____
DRVN is a supplement to the in-class driver’s education course and the behind-the-wheel time a prospective driver should get with a certified driving instructor during the learner’s permit stage. The app seeks to give parents the tools to be a better coach during the time they spend guiding their teens toward driving proficiency and licensure, but does not serve as a substitute for the educational requirements imposed by your state. Check with your local BMV for state-specific information regarding obtaining a driver’s license.
