Drive Hokkaido! supports travel by car rental in Hokkaido by providing convenient tools for driving (MAPCODES for car navigation systems); introducing panoramic routes and tourist spots; and providing discount coupons. It is currently available in English.
The app provides MAPCODE information for tourist spots, which simplifies setting the destination of the car navigation. Other features of the app includes:
a) Tourist spot search (offline search available)
Tourist spot information can be searched by area and purpose. Details include map, address, telephone number, MAPCODE, and parking lot availability.
b) Panoramic Driving Routes
43 routes in 13 areas of Hokkaido are introduced with pictures
c) Facilities with special benefits (coupons will be available from September)
Approximately 250 facilities participating in the pilot program will be providing coupons between September 1 to November 30, 2017. By presenting the app coupon page, foreign visitors may receive discounts and other special benefits.
d) Nearby search
Search for gasoline stations, rest areas (michi-no-eki), and convenience stores nearby.
This App is launched in relation with the "Hokkaido Driving Project" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of JAPAN. It is a pilot program to promote enjoyable driving in Hokkaido for foreign visitors to Japan. GPS data of users will be collected and statistically analyzed to enhance future drive tourism experience.
