UNITY’s Wellness Warrior app is designed to encourage American Indian people in living healthier lifestyles, through cultural approaches. There are several sections that make up the app as a whole, which include a Wellness Tracker, a Fitness time tracker, Culture sharing around the Regional UNITY fires, and a project planning template. The App will be designed in getting the users to be interactive in the app, through several challenges in order to obtain the status of a “Wellness Warrior.”
The wellness tracker will allow users to manually input and track their daily wellness input. The Wellness Tracker is set up in a sliding scale in four directions, highlighting the mental, spiritual, physical and social aspects of wellness. The Fitness Tracker is set up in a circular scale, in a clock-like manner, emphasizing users to reach 40 minutes of physical activity. Both the Wellness and Fitness Tracker will be able save data for users own personal history.
Users will be able to upload traditional food recipes as a social encouragement to others for healthier eating habits and resources. In this section, the app encourages users to share a photo and short description of any cultural activity as part of the overall Wellness Warrior Challenge. Lastly, the app will have a project-planning template for users to easily fill out, in order to help them in planning projects for their local communities.
Once all challenges have been complete in each section, the user will have completed and achieved the Wellness Warrior Challenge. Overall the app is designed to encourage Native People to become more engaging in their own health, wellness and lifestyle habits.
