On the “Behind the Scenes” tour, you will get a peek into the Kennicott Archives and see artifacts not on display to the public. You will also learn about the animals inside the Interpretive Center and the work animal care staff does to keep them happy and healthy.
But if you are ready to venture out on the trails, choose the “Traverse the Trails” to learn about the natural history of the site and what makes this Illinois Nature Preserve unique! From the time of the glaciers to today, native wildlife and plants have survived on the fertile land of The Grove.

The Grove is 148 acres of ecologically diverse prairie grove land preserved and maintained by the Glenview Park District. Settled by the Kennicott Family in 1836, The Grove was once home to Robert Kennicott, Illinois’ first naturalist. The Grove was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It is on National Registry of Historic Places and is a partner with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Chicago Wilderness.
