About CVSA Out-of-Service Criteria

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria, updated annually on April 1, are used by commercial motor vehicle safety inspectors to identify critical violations that render commercial motor vehicles and/or drivers out of service until the condition(s) can be corrected or fixed.

This app contains the out-of-service criteria, inspection bulletins, real-life photo examples of vehicle and hazardous materials/dangerous goods violations, access to the CVSA Learning portal for online training, inspection procedures, operational policies, inspection and educational videos, brochures and more.

CVSA is comprised of commercial motor vehicle safety officials and motor carrier industry representatives. Its mission is to improve commercial motor vehicle safety and uniformity throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. by providing guidance and education to enforcement, industry and policy makers.

The North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria is updated annually, effective April 1 of each year, with the release of that year’s edition of the handbook.
