Data Lantern is an app that allows you to monitor different devices/sensors that you own. Version 1 of the Data Lantern App monitors and gathers key OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) data from your vehicle. These data are stored into Data Lantern secure data server in the cloud. You can grant access to your vehicle OBD data with your mechanics, and thus allows them to monitor your vehicle performance and receive alerts if the “Check Engine Light” comes on.
The OBD Function of the Data Lantern App can display real-time Speed, Engine RPM, Engine Temperature, Battery Voltage, and Air-Flow Sensor readings; and calculate the fuel rate, and the instantaneous and long duration average fuel economy. In additions to the standard engine data readings, your mechanics can also monitor and gather additional engine performance data to assist them in troubleshooting and fixing your car in the shop.
When your vehicle “Check Engine Light” comes on (and in some cases even before it comes on), you and your mechanics can configure to receive real-time email and / or SMS text alerts. Your mechanics will be able to review the data from remote and provide you real-time advise as to the vehicle’s faulty condition(s) and when to bring your vehicle into the shop for service.
Sensor data collected by the Data Lantern App is completely secured. By default, only you can see all the data gathered by Data Lantern. Therefore, you must explicitly grant access permission of the OBD data to your mechanics if you want their support. As we build out our data ecosystem to include additional devices and sensors, Data Lantern can provide you with a unified view and control of all your smart device and sensor data.
