About A Word Shared

The idea of Lectio Divina (‘sacred reading’, or praying with scripture) is really very simple: God speaks, and when he does, he speaks to each of us lovingly and personally. So when we listen, we know it’s a word spoken in love and ‘for me’. Heart speaking to heart.

When you use this app, a short phrase from the day’s readings at Mass will appear. It’s a phrase a monk has chosen for the way it has stood out from the rest, in an entirely personal way, and shared. Then underneath you see a question, which aims to help personalise the reading.

The idea is to stay with the short reading, allow it to settle in the heart, and with the help of the question, ask what God might be saying; how his words might be reaching my heart and my unique personal circumstances. You can just as well ignore the question, if you prefer.

Over time, people find this way of praying a real encouragement and a life-giving moment of peace in an otherwise hectic day. It forms the heart of a monk’s way of life.
