About Project PEAR

Project PEAR is a game about a robot named PEAR (an acronym for Personal Environmental Assistant Robot), from the post-climate change future, where a large portion of the world had been destroyed by our changing climate. Experience the future through the eyes of PEAR to learn about climate change and how our current activities will impact the global temperature. This game was developed through a collaboration between the SUTD-MIT International Design Centre (IDC) and SUTD Game Lab at Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Key Features:
- Travel to real-world landmarks or spots that implement green technology to collect green energy, which can be used to play the minigames.
- Discover the activities around Singapore and learn how high energy demand or deforestation produces greenhouse gas.
- Interact with PEAR and play minigames that use Geolocation and Augmented Reality.
- Unlock new stories by completing climate change quests and unveiling PEAR's true purpose.
- Recharge PEAR’s battery using electromagnetic discharge from your electrical appliances.

About the research
Through a detailed user study conducted by Kyra Wang and Zenep Duygu Tekler under the supervision of Prof. Dorien Herrremans, Prof. Lucienne Blessing, and Prof. Lynette Cheah at SUTD, it was verified that this game can increase player’s knowledge about climate change and promotes positive actions to reduce the effect of climate change.
