Not quite ready for real time OCR to Speech
09 Oct 2025: I am continually searching for app to help a severely dyslexic 83 year old person that is incapable or reading even the simplest thing like store labels, short notes, etc. This app is one of the closest that I have found that doesn’t ask the user to amputate both arms for subscribing as others do. However, it has its issues that I have outlined below. 1. Taking a picture and having it OCR converted to speech takes too long and this doesn’t make the app as convenient and quick as one would expect even though it does a really good job at doing just that. 2. It uses an unnatural computer generated (robotic in nature) voice and has no setting to alter the voice used even though translation can alter the speech a bit. 3. It only offers a monthly subscription and no annual one which may be ok for some; but, a constant annoyance to others who would use it constantly and would appreciate the typical discount for an annual subscription. I’ll continue to check-in on the development process for this app to see if the one critical thing, speed, is addressed making it a great app for dyslexics.
