Reduce agitation and anxiety during dementia care.
Memory Tracks supports care by using memorable music connected to daily activities that helps to improve memory and mood. Through our research we have shown that this can bring enormous benefit to any care setting.
Music has been proven to have the biggest impact on BPSD - the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
The app is easy you use, based on a simple set of tiles that represent daily activities such as taking medication, getting dressed or washing. Each activity is linked to a memorable song, based on the person’s age. When a tile is tapped, the relevant song is played and this helps recall the particular activity. Tiles can also be set up as timed reminders to play automatically even if the app is closed, for example, as a reminder to take medicine. Memory Tracks is suitable for anyone who needs help with remembering daily tasks, or for people receiving care, such as being washed, being dressed, being taken to the toilet. Using Memory Tracks helps maintain care schedules, and improves care compliance.
The app is automatically set up with a default Profile. After you download and confirm the subscription (there is a free trial period), you will see 20 different activity tiles with songs based on someone born in 1940. You can add as many Profiles as you wish in the Profile section.
You are ready to go! The app is fully customisable. You can change any of the songs from our database of 360 favourite hits. You can move, add, remove or rename activities, and you can customise tiles with your own pictures. The app also has some additional features that help improve mood to bring real moments of joy. There is a radio that plays the songs in the list, and a song-along function that displays the lyrics of over 60 songs.
Music has a unique access to the brain and there has been a long line of research that has shown how it reduces anxiety, depression, confusion and improves mood. Playing these personal songs in connection to daily activities has shown that there is better recall and recognition, leading to lower stress and agitation. It makes caring for people a simpler and happier activity.
