About Dooinwell – Daily Check-in
Dooinwell helps families ensure an older adult living on their own is not having an unnoticed event in-between calls or visits. Dooinwell relies on the active engagement of the older adult and alerts families if a safety issue is suspected.
HOW IT WORKS FOR THE PARENT/ OLDER ADULT
- SAFETY CHECK-INS: Your parent has a new routine: checking in. A few times a day, during specific time slots, your parent submits an in-app check-in.
- OUTINGS MONITORING: Your parent can register their planned activities before leaving home and set their maximum expected duration. When back, they confirm being safely back home.
- HANDS-FREE SAFETY: With “Hey Siri” near an iPhone, iPad or HomePod, your parent can request your assistance with their voice only, without the need to physically reach a device. A training mode is available to learn and practice the voice command.
- OPTIONAL KIOSK-MODE: for parents not in the habit of checking their phone, or not familiar with using a phone or an app, you can use a dedicated iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad on a stand. This triggers special features that helps your parent successfully comply and also ease access to the app (no need to launch the app but just to touch the screen).
PRIVACY-FRIENDLY
- Information submitted by your parent are not disclosed to you unless we suspect a safety issue. The app won't change your relationship and you’ll continue to learn what your parent has been up to through your calls and visits.
- Relatives only get to see check-in confirmations if no safety issues have been suspected.
- Only a suspicious situation momentarily unlocks access to private information that helps you assess whether there are reasons to worry: device geolocation, declared out-of-home activity, expected activity duration, etc
HOW IT WORKS FOR RELATIVES
- Always in the know: through the app or right on the watch face of your Apple Watch, you’re always in capacity to confirm we’ve got a fresh update from your parent. It will help you worry less in-between your calls and visits.
- Smart alerts: you get an alert if something raises doubt on your parent safety. Dooinwell alerts are delivered to your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, and - when critical - they display and play a sound even on a device that is in Silent or Do Not Disturb mode.
- Well informed, only when you need to: in addition to sending an alert, a suspicious situation momentarily unlocks access to information that helps you assess whether there are reasons to worry. Access the latest known status and location of your parent's devices (only until the situation gets resolved), and discover what your parent was planning to do if he registered an outing.

I love this app
For those who use Apple devices, this app is great! It is fairly easy to set up and simple to use. We have tested the app extensively and found it delivers as promised and is reliable. One of the things I really like is it sends notifications to my Apple watch and I can check-in from the watch. It also allows me to call for help from my watch. This is important, as I’m not always close to my iPhone and iPad. Caregivers only receive a notification if I do not check-in, or when I request help or for someone to call me, so it is not burdensome for those participating. Something very important to me is the app works anywhere in the world and in any time zone, provided you have an Internet connection. Most apps I looked at are limited in where they will work, which is typically US, Canada and maybe a few other countries. Technical support is excellent and the app’s developer is open to feedback on how it can be improved. There are a few areas where documentation could use some improvement, but I’ve already seen helpful changes based on my feedback and questions and they have promised other refinements, all minor in nature, are coming, based on feedback I’ve given. In short, I highly recommend the Dooinwell app. They offer a 2 month trial, which is plenty of time to decide if this app is right for your needs. The piece of mind it gives me, and my caregivers, is worth every penny!
