Formed in 1971 and established as a fire district in 1979, the Big Sky Fire Department serves over 80 square miles of south central Montana in the unincorporated mountain resort area of Big Sky. As a full service combination department, we provide ALS transport emergency medical services, structural and wildland fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response and rescue services. In addition, the BSFD performs building and development plan review and inspection, first aid and CPR education, fire prevention and fire safety education and assists the community by providing defensible space education for properties in our wildland urban interface environment. We are an energetic organization of career and paid on-call firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians working from two stations and responding to over 750 emergency incidents annually. We take great pride in our work and our excellent customer service evaluations, as measured by our client surveys. The department is overseen by an elected Board of Trustees who sets district policies, provides for the annual budget and supervises the fire chief.
