Everyday English in HK (EEHK) aims at providing a platform for daily listening input in the Hong Kong context to enhance learners’ English listening and speaking, as well as lexical resources at ease. The English listening and vocabulary practices in this app are tailor-made with local stories culturally adapted to the history, the daily encounters, and some common pronunciation or usage matters of Hong Kong. Learners are expected to raise their sensitivity and cultural awareness in learning English naturally in their daily life.
The app contains scenario-based videos on real-life conversations, mini-tasks on targeted vocabulary, and video demonstrations of highlighted teaching points, including English expressions uniquely used in Hong Kong, and the pronunciation features used by native speakers in the connected speech (such as sentence stress and intonation). The content is designed under the naturalistic language learning approach and grouped into 3 levels of difficulty. This mobile application is funded and developed by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and co-created by Ms CHAN Ka Yee Shirley from the Centre for Language in Education, Faculty of Humanities, and the Coding Education Unit of EdUHK.
