Give a damn about climate change!

===

I started Decarbon because I'm... scared. The climate emergency feels more and more urgent, and for years I've struggled to understand both my contribution to the problem and what I can actually do about it.

The result is Decarbon: a simple tool to help us demystify our carbon impacts as we push for systemic change. It’s our mission to bring humanity into harmony with nature through consumer empowerment.

If you have any feedback, or want to try Decarbon with your company, my co-founder Zack and I would love to meet you!

Peace,
Kyle

Does my carbon budget actually matter in the grand scheme of things?
One person's carbon impact is a teeny tiny drop in the giant lake-sized bucket of global emissions. But! Your personal carbon budget absolutely matters. For a few reasons:
1. Millions of individuals and businesses actively striving to reduce their impact can make a difference.
2. Educating yourself and your community on the biggest areas of climate impact can empower you to know where to focus your activism.
3. The urgent need to respond to climate change demands that we try every single thing we can to reduce our collective impact. Let’s go all in.

How does Decarbon calculate the CO2e impact of my purchases?
Tap the info icon on your purchase to see the exact calculation Decarbon made! The CO2e impact for your purchases is a simple multiplication of the purchase amount, the CO2e emissions factor (CO2e per $) of the purchase category, and any modifiers that you can apply to the purchase to make it more accurate.

What should my annual CO2e budget be?
It should be as low as humanly possible! The initial goal on Decarbon is 7 metric tons of CO2e per year, so you can start with that and then lower it as you begin to understand your impact.

How does climate change action work on Decarbon?
In Decarbon, anything that helps us mitigate or adapt to climate change is a “climate action”. All climate actions are created and then filterable by the teams you join. The Decarbon team that you start with has a list of dozens of actions.

How do Decarbon’s expert collabs work?
Decarbon collabs bring everyone in the app together to work towards the same climate action goal. These collabs are hosted by a different leader in the climate movement. Collabs are a great way to learn and hear how these experts became more involved in their particular area of focus.

Will Decarbon work outside the USA?
You can use Decarbon anywhere, but the experience is currently optimized for individuals living in the United States.
