Brighton Community Church was founded and started gathering on the first Sunday of 1999 with 70 worshippers at the Cathay Pavilion Cineplex in Tampines Town Centre.
Many people have wondered whether we have any connection with an English football club. The origin of the name Brighton can be traced back to the 1960s when a group of youths began gathering for weekly Saturday meetings in Brighton Crescent near Serangoon Gardens. The youths called themselves the Brighton Youth Fellowship (BYF). Many of the founders of this church grew up and were discipled in BYF, including our founding and Senior Pastor Wang Tiak Kweng, who joined BYF as a 13-year-old boy in 1980. When they started this church, they elected to retain the Brighton name as it symbolized their desire to win people and build them up to become multiplying disciples.
