About Perio Brain
Using the latest published guidance, the Perio Brain app is designed to help all dentists, dental professionals and dental students become more familiar with making a periodontitis diagnosis and to formulate a quicker classification.
The Perio Brain app has been designed to provide qualified dental professionals with an evidence-based tool to diagnose and/or plan treatment. Medical terminology is introduced without detailed explanations, which may be misunderstood by non-healthcare professionals. It is not designed for the general public and therefore should not be used without first seeking advice from a dental professional.

Cool app! Could use some tweaking at a user sticking-point though
I think this app is great. It gives extremely valid outputs. I like that it’s aesthetically pleasing (ie, clean, not too cluttered) and seems to strive to be an EFFICIENT app. Efficiency and ease of use is key for usability in healthcare. One small tweak I’d like to see is on the dentition bone loss score. The sliding bar is rather tedious to use. Most of the time, users are going to be entering % (percentages) of under 50%. This is where staging can be tricky. The 1% increments all crammed into half the bar length make it frustrating to use as a 1mm shift of the finger changes the number and makes it error prone (which requires user to edit, then edit again, etcetera. Heck, it’s so touchy even lifting the digit from the screen can change the % score. One suggestion I have for tweaking the app would be to change the bar ratio from 0-70 (the maximum terminal end could be marked “70% +” since beyond that will never result in a different diagnosis stage. This would allow for more precise scrolling along the bar. Also, 5% increments would probably be sufficient for this app - and again would help the user have a good, efficient, less frustrating experience in an otherwise very easy to use, valid app. Fantastic start though! I might recommend for offices’ inter-professional calibration exercises in the future. Keep going :). Can’t wait to see if the education and tx components will be as high of quality.
