About Shared Spaces

Shared Spaces is a three-year project of the University of Saskatchewan Art Galleries & Collection exploring how Augmented Reality (AR) can create opportunities for connection through art. Employing user-centred and service design methodologies, we have been learning from partner communities across Saskatchewan their needs and desires related to the arts and are leveraging our relationships with multiple departments at the University of Saskatchewan to design a new digital service for the arts in response, with acute focus on the presence of Indigenous and other often excluded voices.

The Shared Spaces app is the first outcome from this research, with a target launch date of January 2022. It will allow artists to share work in multiple digital formats and will provide viewers the opportunity to experience art anywhere. We are currently in the first of three stages of development.

The first public event and user test for the Shared Spaces app will launch October 2nd and is being held in partnership with Nuit Blanche Saskatoon. Nuit Blanche Eve, featuring 3D sculptures, green screen videos, and other digital artworks by 10 University of Saskatchewan students, will be presented through the Shared Spaces app.
