With the ArchaeoTrail App, you can discover archaeological sites on your own using your smartphone. With the help of GPS, you are guided along a suggested route to the various points of interest of an archaeological site and provided with visual and textual information. Once downloaded, trails can be used in offline mode as well.
The app is available in many different languages and for a growing number of trails around the world.
At www.archaeotrail.org, after registering for free, those responsible for an archaeological site can create own trails.
The ArchaeoTrail App was created by the Near Eastern Archaeology Department of the Institute for Archaeological Sciences and the MATIS 1 working group of the Institute for Didactics of Mathematics and Computer Science at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. Its development has been funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
