This application, initially created to be used as a techno-pedagogical educational tool in the framework of the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) "Tout comprendre sur le climat et son réchauffement" and courses given in the first year of bachelor in geography at the University of Liège, is freely accessible to anyone who wants to know more about how the climate works.
It helps to understand the distribution of climates on Earth according to Peel's classification (2007) and of the general atmospheric circulation thanks to the 3D animation in augmented reality animation :
- ground and upper air winds,
- highs and lows pressure systems,
- the inter-tropical convergence zone,
- Hadley, Ferrel and polar cells,
- jet streams.
Moreover, the application proposes a 3D modeling of the Foehn effect, the radiative energy budgets over different soils with and without atmosphere, katabatic winds in Antarctica and the three main development of thunderstorm cells.
Finally, it is possible to zoom in on certain cities in order to discover the climate and the circulation that generates it.
App Features :
- Climates of the earth (according to the classification of Peel, 2007)
- General atmospheric circulation
- Hadley, Ferrel and Polar cells
- 3 stages of development of thunderstorms
- Foehn effect
- Radiative energy budget with and without atmosphere
- Katabatic winds
