In Search of Paradise A.R. proposes an immersive intervention into the universe of the film “The Island, starting from an adaptation of the play with the same name by the surrealist Gellu Naum, brought to a contemporary scene by Anca Damian.
Gellu Naum’s Island is a demystified version of “Robinson Crusoe '' by Daniel Defoe, published in 1719. He brings into the present of his period key subjects of the novel, and looks at them through the existentialist and surreal lens that is his signature, contextualizing the work to the realities of the 20th Century. This exhibition proposes a new reading of the subject through the realities of the 21st century, using specific instruments and mediums. Bringing into the foreground the pressing issues of our contemporary world, such as migration, ecology, alienation and tech addiction, Anca Damian’s “Island” brings back to life a classic work through a new lens. Thus, the advance of technology over the last centuries is incorporated into the narrative through the way in which the story is presented, taking the action out of the book into theater, film, and eventually in Augmented Reality, inviting the reader to become an active participant into the universe of the Island.
