The STE App is the Bluetooth-enabled application for mobile devices to connect with STE radiation detectors. It provides a real-time detection interface in support of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and Explosive Ordinance (EoD) Missions. The app contains several features, including radiation exposure, accumulated radiation dosage, geospatial data and a data sharing capability that are primarily used by emergency responders to allow them to take action quickly and decisively.
STE App allows the user to connect the STE detectors to mobile devices using Bluetooth communication technology. It enables the user to stream the detector data (gamma and neutron) directly from the detector to a mobile device in real time.
Device Connection: Each time the STE device is turned on, Bluetooth communications are enabled, and the device is available for connection for two minutes. If the pairing is successful, the user can view the real time data stream for gamma and neutron detection in the application. Once the device is found and linked to the app, the device ID will be automatically stored in the app.
Data Streaming: After the successful connection, a waterfall graph and a display meter show the level of gamma detected in real-time, with options to select units such as CPS, µR/h, µrem/h, and µSv/h. STE detectors equipped with neutron detection are visible on the app and measure counts. Once the count rate exceeds the threshold (trip) value, the detector and mobile device will started alarming. Users can toggle between the screens to select various functions of the app.
Geo-Mapping: The app has an intuitive interface with a basic navigation system. That will display the "trace history" of where the detector has been carried. If the device detects radiation and sounds an alarm, the map will trace that information with colors. The exact location and address will be recorded in the alarm data.
Data Sharing: STE app compiles all the relevant data that can be shared via emails, SMS, and other methods available on the mobile device.
