Kanthasth ("कंठस्थ") is a memory based translation software that was developed by the Department of Official Language with the help of C-DAC, Pune. The Kanthasth 1.0 was launched on 18th August 2018, in 11th World Hindi Conference (WHC) in Mauritius by the then Hon'ble Minister of State for Home Affairs in Mauritius, 2018. Kanthasth 2.0 was launched by Honourable Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah on 14th September on the occasion of Hindi Diwas held in Surat, Gujarat. The mobile version of Kanthasth 2.0 is launched at the 12th World Hindi Conference in Fiji.
It has a Translation Memory (TM) database which stores translated data in the form of source-language and target-language segments. The main characteristic of the Translation memory system is that it allows a translator to reuse the already translated segments while translating a new file. The TM database gets continuously enriched with each subsequent use of the system for translation purposes
This system is made available to all by the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, free of cost.
