As we age, our bones and muscles become less strong. This weakening of our bones and muscles increases the chances that we will experience a fragility fracture. Fragility fractures are fractures that result from simple daily activities or minor falls. Fragility fractures are seen more often in women. But one in five men over 50 will suffer a fragility fracture. Also, more men are experiencing fractures because they live longer now than before. Following a fracture, men have more trouble with mobility than women. They also experience more complications and are more likely to have another fracture in the future. The good news is, that keeping active can slow down the weakening of our bones and muscles, helping to prevent fractures. However, getting enough physical activity can be challenging without proper support.
