Error 153 – In-App WebView Video Playback Failure (Safari OK)

Embedded video playback consistently fails in the Bimmerpost app with “Error 153.” The same videos play without issue when the identical thread is opened in Safari, indicating the problem is isolated to the app’s embedded WebView / AVFoundation handoff rather than the video host or device. This appears to be a media negotiation or codec support issue within the in-app player (likely WKWebView), potentially related to recent iOS media framework changes. The failure occurs across multiple threads and video hosts. App offload/reinstall does not resolve it. Safari uses the full native media stack and succeeds, while the app’s WebView fails to initialize playback. This suggests deprecated APIs, missing media permissions, or incorrect handling of modern streaming headers. Please review in-app video playback implementation for current iOS compatibility. Restoring functional embedded video support would significantly improve usability.
