About Noctie Chess Trainer

Master chess openings and tactics by playing against Noctie's human-like AI trainer. Play training games and practice any opening repertoire while getting instant visual feedback on every move.

TRAIN AGAINST HUMAN-LIKE AI OPPONENTS
Experience chess training with an AI that adapts to your level and makes natural mistakes. No more facing perfect computer moves - practice against realistic opponents that help you improve gradually. Improve and progress through 20 difficulty levels of humanlike bots, from beginner to master.

PRACTICE CHESS OPENINGS THE RIGHT WAY
Choose your favorite opening - Queen's Gambit, London System, Caro-Kann Defense - or import your own repertoire, and train against an AI that actually follows the lines humans play. Unlike robotic chess engines, Noctie plays realistic human moves while teaching you proper opening technique through actual gameplay.

GET INSTANT VISUAL FEEDBACK WHILE YOU PLAY
Get color-coded move quality feedback instantly as you play. Identify tactical mistakes and brilliant moves in real-time, accelerating your improvement faster than traditional chess study methods.

SOLVE PUZZLES FROM YOUR ACTUAL GAMES
After each game, practice custom tactics based on positions where you struggled. Missed a winning combination? Find the move after the game instead. Your puzzles are stored for later spaced repetition practice, so you'll never repeat the same mistake again.

SET UP ANY POSITION, STUDY LESSONS & ENDGAMES
Use the position builder to set up a position, or play a scenario from one of our instructive lessons, covering everything from position imbalances to theoretical endgames. Practice basic king + pawn endgames until they're second nature, so you'll find the moves quickly in your competitive games.

What happened with update?

UPDATE: Thank you for returning the line selection feature - much improved. Original : I recently started using and bought a subscription. Things were going great until the recent update. After the update I lost all of my opening library and progress. Compounding that it’s really not clear how to navigate to rebuild that. The user flow to start practice sessions and select specific openings is TERRIBLE. As an example, I found only black opening library. There appears to be no way to find and load specific openings other than starting with the list in alphabetical order and working your way through. Im bummed - it was good and now this sucks.

Not a chess trainer

Claims to be a chess trainer, but it literally doesn’t coach you through anything unless you pay money. You get like 2 free matches and that’s it. Otherwise, it’s just one free puzzle every day and one free puzzle every week. They’re dumb puzzles too. It just says (win this position) gives you a dumb position and if you reset and try the same moves the ai does something different every time. It doesn’t tell you like mate in two or three or even tell you where you messed up. Chess.com is better and it’s not even a coaching app.
