Amazing Game!
I like this game. I’ve played Shogi a ton with this app. I currently have 137 points as of writing this. You can play against others locally, or against the built-in AI. The “Very Easy” AI is indeed VERY easy, but you don’t get any points for beating it, which I actually kind of like. I will admit, though. The 1-point “Easy” AI was EXTREMELY difficult when I was starting out. But as I played more and more, I eventually beat it for the first time, and after that, it just kept getting easier and easier. The AI is kind of weird, though. The “Easy” AI starts by giving you a ton of its pieces, then after that, it ALMOST always plays amazing moves with the occasional blunder thrown in. But, with a bit of practice, you’ll start to learn when to drop new pieces, when you should turn your pieces red, and even tactics and sacrifices. I find it fun that I became decent at Shogi, just by playing this app. I only watched two YouTube videos related to Shogi - I learned everything else from just playing on this app. And if you get REALLY good, you might attempt the “Medium” AI, which is again a HUGE step up from Easy, but gives you 3 points when you win. The highest level, Expert, supposedly gives 7 points, but I haven’t even tried to beat it yet. Just a tip: if your Game Center score does not match up with your actual score, you can fix it by logging into Game Center (try viewing the leaderboards, you’ll know you did it when the Welcome banner appears), then win a game. When you’ve done that, your score should update. All in all, while the AI in this game is REALLY weird, it’s definitely a fun way to play (and learn) Shogi. I’m very satisfied with the fact that I had no formal guidance, and learned everything I know, only by playing this one app.
