About Mnemo Major System Trainer

The Major System is an effective method for encoding numbers into images. Using this mnemonic technique, remembering a sequence of numbers is highly improved compared to simple memorization.
(Synonyms: Major System, Master System, Digit Code according to Aimée Paris, Phonetic System, conversione fonetica etc.).

The Mnemo Major System Trainer allows you to create a personalised Major System for the mnemonics Major System.
With the help of the integrated training programme - the trainer - the Major System can be quickly learned and further optimised.
For this purpose, a traffic light system of reaction times to queried terms is used, which effectively exposes sub-optimally selected images and allows rapid optimisation in the development of one's own Major System.
A summary overview of the reaction times - here called statistics - additionally supports this process.
In addition to the master system, trainer and statistics, the generator was added as a further component, which enables the translation of arbitrarily long numerical sequences into the images of the major system.

To further facilitate the process of creating your own major system, a ready-made major system for the number range 00 - 99 has been integrated.
In addition, a list of alternative terms that satisfy the rules of the major system was added to each term.
Attention: The selected images are to be understood as examples and logically cannot be the optimal memory image for everyone.
(In ancient times, for example, teachers of mnemonics refrained from giving their students ready-made mnemonic systems. The students were supposed to develop their own systems. Even then, it was known that one's own associations facilitate memorisation).

Features:

INTUITIVELY DESIGNED LEARNING PROGRAM

• Multiple training possibilities
• Question mode for images or numbers
• Training with major system terms instead of pictures
• Free selection of the number range to be learned with optional restrictions to specific reaction time ranges, questions answered incorrectly or not yet processed terms
• Training level indicator

PREINSTALLED MAJOR SYSTEM

• Major System Terms and selected images for the numbers 0 – 99 and 00 – 09
• Major System Terms for the numbers 000 – 999
• Freely customizable
• Comprehensive collection of alternative Major System Terms
• Choice of alternative images (camera, photo album, integrated web search for images)
• Color codes for response times in the main view of the Major System
• Cards view (comfortable learning like using file cards)
• Optional extension to the three-digit major system (the trainer and the generator automatically use the chosen system: 2 or 3 digits)
• Build optional major systems (in addition to the German, English and Italian Major System three custom major systems can be build)
• CSV Import and Export
• Import and export (incl. pictures) in Mnemo file format

GENERATOR

• Major System encoding for any numerical sequence
• Possibility of adding notes
• Saves any number of encodings
• Settings (hide the notes field, hide the pictures, one or multiple terms per line)
• Supports the Person – Action – Object (PAO) System (uses the optional master systems Custom 1, 2 and 3 alternately)

A few issues for an expensive app.

Conceptually this is the perfect app for training major system fluency, I like the trainer. The first thing I did was turn off images… although memory palaces are made of images, the ones here have too many interpretations. I don’t know what a macaw looks like, that picture is clearly a dart and not an arrow, how do I tell this is the sun and not the sky, etc. You are able to edit the words and pictures, but I don’t feel like spending the time to redo the entire set of 100-1000 flash cards. Thankfully, you can switch to words only, which is especially necessary if you break into triple digits… some words don’t seem to have photos or be translatable into a photo. Many of the 3 digit words I have never even heard of and while they’re fine for the trainer it makes the generator less useful since the words are impossible for a layman to imagine. There’s another major(heh) issue where sometimes Sh- words are interpreted as S words and get quizzed wrong. I also think this app would be better off with text input as an option in word to text, since it can sometimes clue you in on the right choice by elimination. I wouldn’t nitpick like this but this app is absurdly expensive for what is essentially flash cards, honestly you might be better off getting Anki and downloading someone’s major system set. Please take better care in your app development if you’re going to set the price this high.

Some nice ideas and implementation but annoying details to work through

Nice clean Interface and training ideas, but if you’re an American you’re going to have to get over some unusual choices for photos. I had to simply memorize them the way the developer intends us to, and move on. For example I sent this to Support but never heard back: Sauce -- shows more strawberry than sauce, and chocolate is not a common "sauce" Waste -- shows a typical holder of waste rather than actual waste Sour -- shows a lemon, which has a sour taste in the juice, but on a big list of nouns having a photo represent a "taste" is inconsistent. Perhaps a face with a sour expression is better Ice -- Americans think of ice cubes from the fridge, not ice crystals that are hard to see on the phone photo Tea -- Americans almost never drink tea out of a clear glass jar. Looks more like honey Ham -- looks more like a cut of beefsteak than the way ham is often prepared Arrow -- very clearly NOT an arrow. That is what is called a "Dart" Team -- would be better if one at the top was not red and all the others white, making us think of the individual at the top, not the whole “team” Door -- more of a cartoon of a door, or a toy, than a typical door. Very few people have blue doors Douche -- Not a good word for American English. Nut -- most people think of walnuts, pecans, cashews, etc. NOT coconuts Weiner -- the word is singular, so the photo should show just one Nail -- the word is singular, the photo should show just one Ink -- should just show the inkwell, NOT the pen Knob -- Americans think of the device that opens a door as a knob. The photo is of a "button" Moss -- looks more like "sprouts" or soemthing. Moss is usually seen as a green growth at the base of a tree or on a rock. Mommy -- would be better if the mother was the focal point of the mommy picture, not the baby Match -- word is singular, the photo should be Rat -- the photo is very clearly what americans consider a "mouse". The grey Norway rat is what we envision as a rat Rome -- the photo is of a dome-like building shape used in many governmental buildings in the world. Better an image a thing in Rome that has a distinctive shape that is unique looking on a 15x15 millimeter image Rock -- word is singular, image should be of just one Robe -- photo shouldn't include the face of a person as the focal point Light -- of all the 1,000,000 of classic, real, day-to-day lights we all see, why choose a photo of an imaginary one coming off of the thumb that barely shows the light part? Lamb -- word is singular, image should just be of one Jewel -- tough one. Image is too close to "gem", another 2-number word Judge -- Americans think of images of people who serve the role of judge, Not a statue of a Greek goodess of judgment Sheaf -- tough one, but a sheaf of papers is more pertinent to modern lifestyle Ship -- Very unusual ship. A typical "ship" would be an ocean liner or warship. Your image is very clearly a "ferry" Okra -- outright wrong. That is not what okra looks like. Okra is green. Your image is of a pepper Cook -- your image is of a hat. A "cook" is either the person who cooks (in which case a person wearing the hat with an apron makes sense) or it is a verb to cook (in which case a person in the act of cooking say on a pan at a stove. Fuse -- the image is of an obscure type of fuse few non-auto-mechanics see. A classic 1960s "breaker box" fuse would make more sense Foot -- Word is singular, photo should show just one. A ballet-position posed photo of 2 feet with a flower as the focal point is especially misleading Foam -- Image is of "bubbles". Foam is generally white and the bubbles in foam are too small to see. Fig -- Maybe that is an image of a fig, but most would think of cactus rather than fig Fife -- To Americas a fife is a small wooden flute. The image is of a "pipe" Fob -- The image is of a "watch". Fob is hard, but the image is not good. Bat -- sure that might be a bat, but Americans generally think of bats in flight, where we might see their distinctive wings Bone -- A bone alone is much better than a bone in a bowl Pool -- too much going on, especially for a small photo on a phone. The image very well could be a beach coastline. Pub -- image is of spigots to pull beer. A pub image would better show the front of a pub establishment on a city street.
