What is burnout?
Burnout does not have an official diagnosis, and has many potential causes. Burnout is often hard to differentiate from working hard. Oftentimes, burnout at first feels like being extra tired, frustrated, or demotivated, but nothing more serious than that. Sometimes, burnout is only clearly identified as burnout later on in retrospect.

We think of burnout as an exhausted and demotivated state that anyone can fall into, as a result of a toxic environment, pushing too hard for too long, or failing to live up to unrealistic expectations.

The problem at the core of burnout isn't about having high standards – the problem is when the expectations you've been trying to meet keep getting higher, no matter how hard you try – or, that the expectations you've been asked to meet don't align with your own view of how things should be done.

Great app

This app is great. I love how it asks you questions about how you are feeling in a very detailed way. It gives you the opportunity to record your reflections about yourself day to day and really take inventory to see how you are feeling. It’s nice because you almost get that third person perspective on where you are at so you can become more neutral in order to see what the next step will be for yourself in the moment.

Burnout prevention for founders, entrepreneurs, reachers, and busy people

I am a successful but stressed out solopreneur with a ton on my plate. Before Bonsai I felt like there were no easy resources to help me navigate the inevitable burnout that comes with this lifestyle, at least without spending even more of my precious time looking for resources, hiring a coach, reading a book, etc. Bonsai is exactly the bite-sized companion I needed. Its short lessons and exercises give me just enough each day to pay attention to how burnout is showing up for me, helping me to steadily improve my relationship to it. The daily check-ins, reflections, and AI coach give me helpful space to process. And I feel like I learn something new each day, even when I thought I already knew everything about burnout. I just got to the chapters on “Japanese wisdom for life-centered recovery” and I’ve been eating them up. Thanks Bonsai team for creating such a valuable resource!
